Are you looking for apps to keep your child engaged in learning, or simply growing tired of their time-waster apps during screen time?
Aquarium Academy might just be the solution you’re looking for!
Playable in both English and French, it’s a fun and engaging way for children to learn STEM (i.e. science, technology, engineering, math) Principles! And parents, you’ll have peace of mind knowing there are no in-app purchases or ads.
Once downloaded, Aquarium Academy can be played offline. Your child doesn’t need an email address or account. However, you can enter your email address to access game progress from other devices. This is optional.
Before gameplay begins, a tutorial shows players how to navigate and play the game. The tutorial is a great way for you to learn about the game as well!
The game has over 400 questions and varying difficulty levels to keep your child engaged as they learn:
- Easy (grades 1-2)
- Medium (grades 3-4)
- Hard (grades 5-6)
- Very hard (grades 7-8)
Keep in mind that these ratings are just recommendations, and we encourage players to try all of the questions. They can challenge themselves to a higher difficulty or refresh themselves with questions they may already know the answer to.
The questions are grouped into stages and organized by the categories: science, technology, engineering, and math. Each stage has multiple questions to answer within a time limit. Answering questions correctly before the timer is up will award players fish or decorations. Additionally, players earn treasure chests by completing bonus categories which are a mashup of questions from the different STEM categories.
Treasure chests include multiple awards mentioned above as well as coins to spend in the in-game store (not real money).
But what happens if players get a question wrong?
As Katie King from Owl Kids puts it “Some of the questions in this app are easy, and some are really hard. Don’t worry if you get a question wrong on the first try–you can try again as many times as you want.”
She also goes on to add. “Another cool thing about this app is that everything in your aquarium comes with a description. Want to know more about that cute seahorse? Or that weird-looking rock? No problem! Just tap it and read away.”
Which brings us to the next point. Where do the rewards end up?
Your child can decorate their Aquarium anyway they’d like by arranging their decorations, gathering more fish, and expanding their aquarium. They can also visit their aquarium to learn about all the aquatic life within it, as each reward comes with interesting facts about the species.
Players can purchase fish, decorations, and extra space for the aquarium from the store using in-game coins (not real money). Rewards can also be exchanged for coins and coins are given in place of rewards in repeated levels.
What are the benefits?
Video games can teach critical thinking, problem-solving, and discovery-based learning. Aquarium Academy is a great distraction from time-waster apps that your child may play during screen-time.
Players can enjoy the game on road trips or in the waiting room as it can be played offline. Additionally, there are no in-game purchases or ads of any kind, no interactive play with other players, and no one will be asked to like / follow / review in exchange for rewards.
We installed one of our Aquarium Academy kiosks in a public library and their librarian let us know “Aquarium Academy has been a big hit with our patrons in our library. It is a great learning / teaching tool. Kids are enjoying the games and parents / teachers / guardians are joining in with them. Everyone enjoys learning about the different species in the aquarium too. When classes come to the library, there is always a line up at the aquarium.”
There’s so much to do at Aquarium Academy! In summary, your child can stay engaged with over 400 multiple choice questions, earn aquatic rewards for their aquarium, and learn fin-tastic facts about underwater life in this interactive digital learning experience.
Aquarium Academy™ can be played offline once downloaded so players can take it anywhere! It can also be used as an indispensable add-on to classroom learning and is a good distraction from time-waster apps.
